Bible Verse:  Luke 19:37

“As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing.  They praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they had seen.”

This week in our Sunday School lesson we had the opportunity to talk about prayer.  Specifically, we talked about the story of when Jesus went to the garden with his disciples.  As the entered the garden, Jesus told the disciples told to watch for guards.  Jesus went down deeper into the garden to pray.  He was praying because he anticipated his death and he asked God for strength and peace to do God’s will in the suffering that he knew he would be facing.  The disciples he left behind fell asleep.  The guards ended up finding Jesus and took him away.

Prayer helps us figure out problems or tough situations that we are facing just as Jesus did when he prayed to God in the garden.  Payer makes you feel better because it helps you know you are not alone.  You are able to share your worries or problems with someone you know is going to help you through it.  This is what God does for us.

We learned about a way to help us focus our prayers for the week by creating a Five Finger Prayer.  This is the five finger prayer we made and each of us have promised to focus on praying for these people or situations this week.  We would like to encourage you to use this to help you as you pray this week.  You can use our five finger prayer or you may create one of your own.

In our Sunday School materials, we also looked at the spiritual Every Time I Feel the Spirit.  The chorus of this spiritual embodies the focus of our lesson this week and is a wonderful meditation for our devotional theme of prayer.  Take today to sing this song and let it be a joyful moment in your day to help you remember to pray.

Every Time I Feel the Spirit

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray
